Be prepared with better questions. You should always be prepared to show engagement during the interview. Use the time to get a better understanding of the organization, how they operate and what your role will look like. This will allow you to have a plan on your start date and how you can contribute to the success of the business and add value through your role. The interview is an information transfer in both directions. Use it to your advantage.

  1. Fast forward one year, you’re looking back on this hire. What did they do to exceed every expectation?
  2. What separates someone who’s adequate from someone who’s exceptional at this position?
  3. What is the most unexpected thing you’ve learned while working here?
  4. What goals has your manager set for you over the next 6 months? How can this hire help you achieve them?
  5. Can you walk me through the road map and projections for the next 12 months?
